Job Elements
To assist in the day-to-day smooth running of the laboratory through the preparation/extraction/analysis of samples and entry of results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) as directed by the laboratory manager/public analyst.
To undertake advanced analytical work within the company to achieve prompt provision of high-quality scientific services within the Food and Agriculture Laboratory.
Undertake sample preparation and analytical work on a whole range of sample types.
Produce analytical results and enter into the Laboratory system for report within the designated time scales.
Be conversant with the operation of equipment and undertake maintenance and minor repairs as authorised.
Be conversant with administrative procedures, relating to sample receipt, storage and handling.
Maintain laboratory safety practices.
The ideal candidate will have:
HND (or equivalent) in chemistry or related subject
Minimum 2 years practical experience in a commercial laboratory
Possess the ability and desire to undertake training in food and agriculture analytical methods
Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in reports
Experienced in laboratory instrumentation techniques of analysis, e.g. HPLC, GC, ICP, UV-vis, q-PCR, ELISA (allergens)
Proficiency in Word, Excel and LIMS systems
