Job Elements
The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for all day to day "transactional" trade compliance activities required to import or export raw material, components, consumables, samples, software and finished goods. This includes transactions related to purchase orders, sales orders, inventory transfers and items shipped free of charge.
Day to day activities include but are not limited to ECCN/HTS classification, determining other government agency requirements, valuation, country of origin analysis, free trade agreements, export license submission and transfer of technology authorizations.
Classification: Use product descriptions and technical data to determine export classification and import classification of saleable and purchased products. Update classification database system (GTS) with classification information and distribute to customs brokers. Respond to daily classification inquiries from customs brokers, government agencies, customers and vendors.
Valuation: Understand acceptable methods of customs valuation and provide guidance to site on appropriate method to use for specific scenarios.
Export Licensing: Submission of US licenses for dual-use controlled products and end-use / end-user restrictions that would require an export license.
Export declaration: Freight Forwarder management as it relates to providing proper information on customs documents and filing direct to AES when required.
Country of Origin: Understand and implement country of origin rules at site. Manage the use of preferential or non-preferential free trade agreements.
Customs Broker inquiries and troubleshooting problem import shipments and providing missing information required for customs clearance missing at the time of import.
Government inquiries: Collection of data for responses to government inquiries such as CBP CF 28 and BIS Post Shipment Verifications.
Record retention: Monitor and maintain recordkeeping for import and export compliance in accordance with local regulations and Internal Control Plan.
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience within a similar role
Detailed knowledge of supply chain activities
Experience using SAP and SAP Global Trade Services
Individual should be willing to seek certification or local government training on trade related topics
